In the book, The Mass Psychology of Fascism, Wilhelm Reich comments on the concept of Sex-Economy. His argument is that fascism controls human beings, by controlling the flows of human sexuality. Capitalism, in the same way, controls human sexuality in order to control consumption. Researchers have found that people who are sexually frustrated are more likely to consume and spend. This again, emphasizes capitalism’s obsession with both the objectification and control of our sexual instincts. Advertisements turn sex into a selling tool; the human body and especially the body of woman, is turned into a platform to sell: ideas, lifestyles and products.
This sounds like a really interesting book. (How often do I say those same words every single day?)
